Our securely fenced playground looks out over the Cleeve Park grounds beyond which our students are able to access and use at scheduled times. We are in the process of having a new trim trail installed within the grounds along with basketball hoops to provide a range of outdoor options.

Enrichment, careers education and personal development are important goals for us and we aim to ensure that our students have the life experiences they need to develop into confident and self-assured young people who feel part of their local communities, have an understanding of national institutions and an interest in global issues. Our vision is to empower students so that they are able to take control of their own future and have enhanced life chances as a result of learning with us.
We have a purpose built life skills room including a full kitchen area, shower and bathroom facilities and even a bed designed for our older student to learn all of the skills they need to live full and independent lives.

As a co-located school our students have a significant advantage of being able ot access the specialist areas and teaching of a mainstream school. Classes go with their Teaching Assistant support to a number of areas of Cleeve Park. The theatre and music areas are within the same building as Cleeve Meadow and have state of the art equipment for these specialist areas.
Cleeve Meadow also has access to a science lab, food tech room and a food technology room in the main Cleeve Park building.

These are the key areas that give Cleeve Meadow school it’s unique atmosphere and ethos, and are a key priority across every area of the curriculum and school life.
Vocabulary – increasing the students’ vocabulary knowledge in order to raise literacy skills.
Zones of Regulation – To enable students to learn how to recognise and regulate their own emotions.
Skills builder – Teaching students the essential skills they will need for adult life and in their future careers.
Multi- sensory learning – Students will learn practically across all areas of the curriculum – this will ensure that all students will be actively engaged in lessons. This will include using practical resources and equipment, role play activities and hands on activities.
High expectations – with the correct support – all of our students will achieve great things! Students and staff will set themselves challenging “Supergoals” to achieve- they will then be supported to achieve small step goals towards these goals. We also follow a curriculum based on the Cleeve Park Curriculum , so that Cleeve Meadow students are learning topics that are the same/ very similar to those of their mainstream peers.
Behaviour – We understand that to be able to live and work in society effectively, our students need to develop a good understanding of acceptable behaviour. We have a robust behaviour management strategy, with students achieving credits and rewards for displaying good behaviour, and debits for unacceptable behaviour. These rewards and consequences are always discussed with students so that they understand the implications of their behaviours. Where necessary, individualised behaviour strategies may be put into place – including shorter term behaviour charts and rewards and report cards.
Individualised support – All of our students are unique, and as such will need differing teaching styles. Lessons will be clearly differentiated towards each students ability and learning style. Students will have an individual Personal learning plan each term, with short term goals towards EHCP targets, wellbeing and Skillsbuilder targets and their Supergoal. Some students will be taken for intervention sessions for Maths and English.

Baloo is Cleeve Meadow’s school dog. He is a black Labrador and joined the school in March 2020. When not in school, he lives with Mrs Nobbs and her family. Cleeve Meadow school is recognised as part of the Dog Mentor family, an organisation who provide training, support and accreditation to schools with school dogs.
Baloo has a variety of roles as our school dog. If a student is anxious about coming into school, Baloo is taken to meet them, and the student can spend a few minutes with him , before helping a member of staff to bring him back to class- Baloo appears to give them the confidence to come into school and takes their mind of their anxiety. Baloo attends classes, and can be used to sit next to students who are struggling to settle- the students are able to pet him, and this allows them to ground themselves and settle, ready to learn. He also loves to lay with children and “listen” to them read- this is very beneficial to students who lack confidence and are reluctant to read to an adult – Baloo will just lay and listen attentively – meaning the student doesn’t feel like they are being judged on their reading. His most important role has been in supporting students who are finding themselves having a challenging day, or who are upset- in these circumstances, Baloo is taken to the student, and will either sit with them, while they stroke or groom him, which helps them calm, or he will play with them in our courtyard area- within a few minutes of spending time with Baloo, the students have settled and this then enables a member of staff to sit and discuss the situation with the student to help support them further.
Baloo loves his role as the school dog, and the students adore him!

At the heart of everything we do are our students. Our curriculum is student-centred and we aim for their education to be inspiring, stimulating and challenging. Our staff are appointed for their passion, their enthusiasm and their imagination in communicating with children to ensure that every single child in their class is engaged, excited and challenged by the learning experience at all times.
Our leadership team all have a background in SEND and our teaching model, curriculum offer, enrichment activities, building design, behaviour management approaches, local partnerships and lesson structure are all planned to enable all students to achieve their best potential.
We aim to facilitate a high level of parental engagement through coffee mornings, parent workshops, parent evenings and celebration events in order to ensure that we are truly engaging our local community and enabling everyone to have a role in ensuring the best possible standards. A dedicated parents room just off the entrance foyer provides a unique space for this range of parental engagement.
Happiness is one of our core values and we look forward to welcoming your child into this happy, inclusive and ambitious school environment.
