There are 13 student responsibility groups in total and each group is working towards a goal which will have a positive impact on the whole school. At the end of the school year each group will share their progress with the school in an assembly. We are really excited to hear all of their ideas and see the positive contributions their groups will have on the school community.
Why have you launched Student Responsibility Groups?
We launched Student Responsibility Groups to give students a meaningful voice and real opportunities to take ownership of school life. Working with students from across the school in student responsibility groups provides a purposeful role that helps them practise independence, decision-making and social responsibility in a safe, supportive environment. These groups allow students to contribute in ways that suit their individual strengths, interests and needs, rather than being passive recipients of adult decisions.
Through participation, students gain a wide range of skills; they develop confidence and self-esteem by being trusted with responsibility and seeing that their contributions matter. They practise communication, teamwork and problem-solving, and learn how to express opinions, listen to others and work towards shared goals. Importantly, the groups support preparation for adulthood by building transferable life and employability skills such as reliability, leadership, resilience and self-advocacy.
Eco-Champions
This year, we'll be working on the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, carrying out an Environmental Review of our school and creating an Eco-Action plan to make our school and community more sustainable and eco-conscious.
